Taking tests online unsupervisedCEB (formerly SHL) offer some tests that can be administered to candidates online and unsupervised. This option can be useful if you have candidates in places where supervised testing is impractical or where more cost effective and speedy options are needed. The idea behind these tests is that they can be used as an initial screening tool, and later the candidate’s results would be “verified” through a supervised shorter versions of the test, although many clients do not take up the verification testing.

SHL (CEB) Verify Assessments

The inductive, verbal and numerical tests are available for different levels of role:

Verify Verbal Reasoning – Lower Level Roles
  • 17 minutes in length, verify test 11 minutes in length.
  • This verbal reasoning test is designed to measure a candidate’s ability to evaluate the logic of various kinds of argument as presented in written form, the Verbal Reasoning test measures the ability to determine the support for conclusions drawn using content that typifies a variety of work settings.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • The equivalent level of SHL supervised numerical test would be the VC2.1 or VC2.2.
  • Suitable for operational roles to junior supervisory roles.
Verify Verbal Reasoning – Higher Level Roles
  • 19 minutes in length, verify test 11 minutes in length.
  • his verbal reasoning test is designed to measure a candidate’s ability to evaluate the logic of various kinds of argument as presented in written form, the Verbal Reasoning test measures the ability to determine the support for conclusions drawn using content that typifies a variety of work settings.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • The equivalent level of SHL supervised numerical test would be the VMG2 or VMG4.
  • Suitable for graduate to management roles.
Verify Numerical Reasoning – Lower Level Roles
  • 17 minutes in length, verify test 14 minutes in length.
  • This numerical reasoning test is designed to measure a candidate’s ability to make correct decisions or inferences from numerical or statistical data, the numerical reasoning test is intended to measure the ability to work with numerical data in a realistic workplace context.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • A calculator can be used.
  • The equivalent level of SHL supervised numerical test would be the NC2.1 or NC2.2.
  • Suitable for operational roles to junior supervisory roles.
Verify Numerical Reasoning – Higher Level Roles
  • 25 minutes in length, verify test 15 minutes in length.Online testing
  • This numerical reasoning test is designed to measure a candidate’s ability to make correct decisions or inferences from numerical or statistical data, the numerical reasoning test is intended to measure the ability to work with numerical data in a realistic workplace context.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • A calculator can be used.
  • The equivalent level of SHL supervised numerical test would be the NMG2 or NMG4.
  • Suitable for graduate to management roles.
Verify Inductive Reasoning Test – Higher Level Roles
  • 25 minutes in length, verify test 7 minutes in length.
  • This inductive reasoning test is designed to test a candidate’s ability to draw inferences and understand the relationships between various concepts independent of acquired knowledge.
  • The Inductive Reasoning test is particularly relevant for roles where critical components of the role include dealing with new concepts and approaches, building strategies, and resolving complex, ambiguous and novel problems.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • Suitable for managerial roles.
Verify Calcuation Test
  • 10 minutes in length
  • This calculation test is designed to measure a candidate’s ability to add, subtract, divide and manipulate numbers quickly and accurately.
  • The Calculation test is particularly useful when assessing an individual’s potential in any role where calculation and estimation, as well as auditing and checking the numerical work of others, are required.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • Suitable for entry-level, administrative and clerical roles, as well as apprenticeship schemes.
Verify Checking Test
  • 4-5 minutes in length
  • This checking test is designed to measure a candidate’s ability to compare information quickly and accurately, the Checking test is particularly useful when assessing an individual's potential in any role where perceptual speed and high standards for maintaining quality are required.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • Suitable for entry-level, administrative and clerical
Verify Mechanical Comprehension Test
  • 10 minutes in length
  • This test is relevant to many technical roles, the Mechanical Comprehension test is designed to measure a candidate’s understanding of basic mechanical principles and their application to devices such as pulleys, gears and levers.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • Typically used for production, manufacturing or engineering-related recruitment or development, the test is often deployed to assess school leaver suitability for modern apprenticeship schemes, the practical application abilities of science and technology graduates or those with work experience looking to move to a technical role.
Verify Reading Comprehension Test
  • 10 minutes in length
  • The Verify Reading Comprehension test measures a candidate's ability to read and understand written materials and is useful for assessment at a range of job levels. This ability is very important wherever candidates will be expected to read, understand and follow instructions, or use written materials in the practical completion of their job.
  • The task involves reading a passage of text, and answering a short written question. An effort has been made to ensure the text passages and resulting questions are relevant to as wide a range of industries and roles as possible. The content of the test makes no assumptions about prior knowledge, with applicants directed to use only the information in the passage to derive their answer.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • Suitable for all job levels.
Verify Spatial Ability Test
  • 15 minutes in length
  • The Verify Spatial Ability Test is suitable for all levels that require spatial ability. The Spatial Ability measures the ability to rapidly perceive and manipulate stimuli to accurately visualise how an object will look after it has been rotated in space. It is designed to provide an indication of how an individual will perform when asked to manipulate shapes, interpret information and visualise solutions.
  • The Spatial Ability test is completely non-verbal and features only shapes and figures. This ability is commonly required when an individual is required to work with complex machinery or graphical information. Sample tasks for jobs that may require spatial ability include, but are not limited to:  rapidly perceiving and manipulating stimuli to accurately visualise how an object will look after it has been rotated; correctly interpreting graphical information; visualising the interactions of various parts of machines; efficiently communicating visual information (e.g., using charts or graphs) in a presentation.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • Suitable for all job levels.
Verify Deductive Reasoning Ability Test
  • 20-30 minutes in length
  • The Deductive Reasoning assessment measures the ability to draw logical conclusions based on information provided, identify strengths and weaknesses of arguments, and complete scenarios using incomplete information.
  • It provides an indication of how an individual will perform when asked to develop solutions when presented with information and draw sound conclusions from data. This form of reasoning is commonly required to support work and decision-making in many different types of jobs.
  • Unsupervised administration online and a rotating bank of test items is used.
  • Suitable for all job levels.
